Oh, and btw - what double do you have? Always curious to hear what strollers people travel with. We're usually good with just our carrier(s), but I'm sure there will come a trip where we'll want a stroller for both kids.

Andy, thanks for the comment! Glad to hear that option works well too. I have yet to purchase a double stroller and since we always take the kids seats on the plane, this has been our system. How is it renting car seats? I've wondered but not yet looked into the pricing and quality of the seats. Would love to hear about your experience with it.

Super timely article! My husband and I traveled to Cape Cod with our two kids last week. I was happy to note that we did pretty much the same thing that you did. Only two differences:

1) We used a double stroller for our 2 1/2 year old and 5 mo. old. We kept the kids in it for the entire time (save security and the last-minute diaper change before boarding). We checked it at the gate at Dulles. That double stroller was a massive lifesaver.

2) We rented a car as well as toddler/infant car seats once we reached MA. It worked out pretty well. We had less stuff to haul, which means happier parents.
