Sizzling & Sweet Steak Marinade

Close friends of ours came over  for dinner right after our second daughter was born. They asked if they could bring a couple of steaks and marinade, for us to throw on the grill. Under most circumstances, I usually insist on making the full meal myself when we entertain guests. But since I was quite the harried mom with a newborn and 2 year old, I decided that accepting their invitation to bring the main course wasn’t such a bad idea afterall. Well, we loved their steaks, and they even brought an extra bottle of their marinade to give us as a gift.

When the last few drops of that marinade was used up a few months ago, I thought my husband was going to cry. We had just bought mammoth strip steaks to throw on the grill, and discovered that their special steak marinade was an online order-only option.

So, I started searching online for a good replacement and stumbled upon this recipe. Which, turns out, we like just about the same as the other marinade. It’s a different taste, this marinade has a sweetness from the balsamic vinegar, and a nice touch of garlic, while the other had a bit of a kick to it. We’ve used this marinade with both strip steaks and filets, and they have all turned out super yummy, moist and tender.

We used this marinade on Father’s Day and our kids begged my husband “to taste test” the meat as he was taking it off of the grill. :)

Sizzling & Sweet Steak Marinade

Ingredients:
1/4 c olive oil
1/4 c balsamic vinegar
1/4 c Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c soy sauce
2 t Dijon mustard
2 t minced garlic
salt and pepper

You could easily half this recipe if you’re marinating two large steaks or four smaller filets. The first time I made this marinade, I put half of it in an old glass bottle, with lid, and refrigerated for a few weeks until we grilled steaks again. While stored in the refrigerator, the oil solidified at the top of the bottle, so make sure to let it sit in warm water for a few minutes before you add the marinade to your steaks.

Directions:
Mix all ingredients together. Let steaks marinate for at least 2 hours.

Bon Appetit!
